Hakourty: Empowering Single Mothers through Sustainability - March 2022

Our unfair food system must change, as many people around the world and in Israel have noted, The Covid-19 epidemic has greatly affected the economic situation and food insecurity which should form the basis of life and peace, especially for families and children living in low socio-economic conditions. Unemployment benefits do not cover this category in East Jerusalem, usually because they work without tax files because of the lack of knowledge and not having the money to have an accountant.

The objectives of the project are to enable women in every family to learn how to manage home economics and the culture of consumption and self-sufficiency, so we taught women how to have an income from home, by cooking and growing all kinds of plants that are suitable for their area, we took them on short tours and worked with them on creating small farms in their home garden, also showing them how to utilize spaces by horizontal and vertical farming. This program included 17 Palestinian women.
